Garden City’s winter sports season may have drawn to a close, but the accomplishments of its talented student-athletes continue to shine brightly as they were honored for their outstanding achievements at the March Board of Education meeting.
With the library filled with proud parents, coaches, teachers, and fellow students, the Garden City Winter Athletes took center stage, receiving well-deserved recognition for their dedication, hard work, and exemplary performances throughout the season.
H honored at the meeting were:
Joseph Bonomi – Boys Track and Field – 600M State Championship Qualifier
Erin Gately – Rifle – Nassau County Champion
Sophia Erigo – Girls Track and Field – 4X800 Relay Nassau County Champion
Kyra Lekanides – Girls Track and Field – 4X800 Relay Nassau County Champion
Taylor Maguire – Girls Track and Field – 4X800 Relay Nassau County Champion
Jennifer Roller – Girls Track and Field – 4X800 Relay Nassau County Champion
As each athlete was called forward to be acknowledged in front of the Board of Education and community, applause and cheers reverberated throughout the room, serving as a testament to the immense pride and support that the Garden City community has for its student-athletes.
In her remarks, the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kusum Sinha, commended the winter athletes for their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence, highlighting the valuable lessons learned through participation in interscholastic athletics.
Similarly, the Ed Ramirez, Director of Athletics, praised the athletes for their dedication, sportsmanship, and positive representation of Garden City High School both on and off the field of play.
For the athletes themselves, being honored at the Board of Education meeting was a moment of pride and accomplishment, a testament to the countless hours of practice, sacrifice, and dedication that they had invested in their respective sports.
