Fall Champions Honored at the Board of Education Meeting

At the Garden City December Board of Education session on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, the achievements of the fall sports teams and individual state championship qualifiers were celebrated amidst a packed audience at the GCHS library. The evening was highlighted by remarks from esteemed personalities including Dr. Kusum Sinha, the Superintendent of Schools, Ed Ramirez, the Athletic Director, Mr. Donald Clavin, Town of Hempstead Supervisor, and Mr. Thomas Muscarella, Town of Hempstead Councilman.

The honorees of the event included the Varsity Field Hockey team, crowned Long Island Champions, alongside the Varsity Football team, also Long Island Champions. Additionally, recognition was given to outstanding individuals such as Ryan McAlea, a Cross Country State Championship Qualifier, Maddie Gebhard, a Swimming State Championship Qualifier, Kayla Castellano, honored for Varsity Tennis All-State performance, and Angelina Bravo, also achieving Varsity Tennis All-State status.

A particularly special acknowledgment was extended to Nina Wiese, whose remarkable accomplishment stands out—she secured Garden City’s inaugural New York State Girls’ Tennis Singles Championship during this past fall season.
