In the Konica Minolta Face-Off, the Garden City Trojans dug deep and worked cohesively in the second half to keep the lead and top the Loyola Blakefield Dons 6-5.
The Trojans were the first to score, with a worm burner sneaking past Loyola goalie Acie Newton two minutes into the game. The Dons quickly tied it, but Trojans senior Justin Guterding recorded an impressive two goals in the final six seconds of the first quarter make it 3-1.
Loyola was able to find the back of the net twice in the second quarter, but were unable to keep up with Garden City as the Trojans pounded in three more goals. Giving the Trojans a 6-3 lead at halftime.
The Dons took the field in the third quarter with a mission – playing aggressive defense and a sound possession minded offense. This was not all for nothing, as the Dons held the Trojans without a goal and scored twice themselves.Unfortunately for Loyola, they could not rally soon enough as the clock expired with a final score of 6-5 and a Trojans win.
Garden City (2-0) is currently ranked 3rd on the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings, and will host La Salle College HS, March 30th at 2 PM.
