EAST SETAUKET, NY – The Garden City Trojans boys lacrosse team kicked off their 2025 season in dominant fashion, defeating Ward Melville 12-6 on Saturday, March 29, in a special Military Appreciation Game held at Ward Melville High School.
Senior attackman Charlie Koester lit up the scoreboard with a career-high seven goals, setting the tone for a Trojans offense that looked sharp from the opening whistle. Midfielder Brayden Robertiello added six points, showcasing his all-around ability with a blend of goals and assists that kept the Patriots defense on its heels.
Garden City controlled possession for much of the afternoon, thanks in large part to face-off specialist Luke Cascadden, who won 15 of 19 draws at the X. His dominance gave the Trojans consistent opportunities to push the tempo and maintain offensive pressure.
“It was a great team win, and an even more meaningful one given the occasion,” said Garden City Head Coach Steve Finnell. “We were honored to be part of the Military Appreciation Game and proud of the way our boys competed.”
Ward Melville, a perennial Long Island powerhouse, showed fight throughout the contest but struggled to generate sustained offensive momentum against a disciplined Garden City defense.
The Trojans now look ahead to building on this strong start as they prepare for another challenging schedule in 2025.
