Huntington, NY – February 6, 2025 –
The Garden City High School girls’ indoor track and field team stunned many in Nassau County by capturing the 2025 Nassau County Championship at St. Anthony’s High School. While the victory may have surprised others, Coach Tom Skrivanek was not among them.
“This is a hardworking group, and they prepared to peak at this time of year,” said Skrivanek. “We still haven’t seen their best.”
The championship was a true team effort, with several standout performances leading the way:
• Kyra Lekanides dominated the 600m, claiming first place.
• Cat Suau captured the 3,000m title in a strong race.
• In the 1,500m race walk, Roisin Pfaff took first, followed by Ella Williams (3rd) and Meghan Crane (4th) for crucial points.
• The 4×400 relay team (Grace Berkery, Eva Vitale, Ashley Ryker, Kyra Lekanides) delivered a clutch victory, adding to the team’s overall success.
• Abigail Tedesco contributed with a fourth-place finish in the 1,500m.
With the county title secured, Garden City now sets its sights on the State Qualifier Meet, where they will compete against the top athletes from Classes A, B, and C. If their performance at counties was any indication, this team is far from finished.
